Week Top 5 Songs of The Weeks ( Welcome Home Kenny!)

First off yesterday the Indians traded to bring home Kenny Lofton a fan favorite from our glory days last decade. Congrats to Kenny who yesterday got 3 hits in leading us to a victory over the Twins 10-4 in his first game back with The Tribe since 2001.

That was yesterday on to today and there is lots of shiz going down this Saturday. Tonight for instance we are going to The Globe in A Glass: wine and cheese world tour which is a benefit for local stations WVIZ & WCPN . Down the street tonight from that event @ The House of Blues Third Eye Blind are playing (Kelly loves them but we are not going because it has been sold out for weeks). @ Touch tonight is the monthly old school Hip Hop party "I Got Five on It" with Terry Urban and Mick Boogie. Except Mick Boogie probaly won't be there tonight because he is hosting the Little Brother show @ The Grog Shop. Lastly if you are looking for some indie rock this evening The Smoking Popes are playing @ The Beachland Ballroom with the awesome You Am I opening and Today @ The Beachland from 11-7pm is the Rock n Roll Flea Market, in conjunction with The Waterloo Arts Festival.

5. (mp3) Bon Iver - Skinny Love Bon Bon Iver is the pet project of Justin Vernon who spent 3 months in North Western Wisconsin holed up creating a beautiful accoustic masterpiece.

4. (mp3) Apartment - 1000 Times these lads hail from North London the vocals remind us a bit of Morrissey but the guitars are straight joy division, early U2, echo and the bunymen you get the drift.

3. (mp3) Tilly and The Wall - The Freest Man (CSS Remix) CSS makes some great remixes and this song is yet another example of their craft.

2. (mp3) Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Drive By Last night when were @ Bier Markt sampling some of their delicious peach mojitos we heard this song. Kelly loves this song and I am clueless as per usual.

1. (mp3) Common - Drive Me Wild (Featuring Lilly Allen) Yes I know what you are thinking Common + Lilly Allen = What? but it really works well. This is our favorite song as of right now.

Top 5 Songs Of Today: Interpol is in town TONIGHT!

In few hours we will be seeing Interpol @ The House of Blues here in C-town. This will be my 3rd time seeing them (all with Kelly). . .however, Kelly has seen them one other time without me, but it was before she knew me and that particular time she met them and actually had the opportunity to play pool with them. So yeah, she gets major scene points for that one. The funny thing is -- right now, as we are preparing dinner, we are listening to a mix she made back in late fall 2002 and back then I hated Interpol. As you can most likely tell, I have completely changed how I feel about this band. On another note, opening for Interpol this evening is Calla and I think their most recent album "Strength in Numbers" is the bees knees.

Some choice jams from Kelly's mix:

(mp3 ) The White Stripes - Hotel Yorba

(mp3) Guided by Voices - Glad Girl

(mp3) Longwave - Pretty Face

(mp3) Grandaddy - Summer Here Kids

(mp3) Pavement - Spit on A Stranger

[and of course Interpol was on that mix as well]

(mp3) Interpol - Obstacle 1

[and Calla was not but here is a nice slice from them as well]

(mp3) Calla - Bronson

Monday Night: Voxtrot vs. The Police

Initially, we were so excited to see Voxtrot play in Cleveland -- especially since they were originally scheduled to play with Au Revoir Simone and local favorite (and friends) Bears. But then they had to go and reschedule their show. . . Additionally, just this afternoon we were offered the opportunity to see The Police perform tomorrow evening which happens to be the same night that Voxtrot was rescheduled to play. Of course we were faced with somewhat of a dilemma (because we would love to somehow make it to both shows) but one thing we are keeping in mind is that a year and a half ago we were fortunate enough to see Voxtrot's very first Ohio performance in Columbus (see post and pics here). And, how could we ever pass up a chance to see The Police -- can you blame us???

Bonus: Be sure to check out this incredible compilation of black and white photographs, I'll Be Watching You: Inside The Police, 1980-83, upon the recommendation of Club Monaco's *Favorite Things For July*

Top 5 Songs of The Week ( A Dangerous Person Edition)

Last night we went to go see "Eagle Vs Shark" and we both really enjoyed it. It was very quirky and sweet like we expected. It remind us of a Combination of Napoleon Dynamite with some of "Me and You and Everyone We Know" and some Little Miss Sunshine too. So a movie tailor made for some indie kids like ourselves.

5. (mp3) Phoenix Foundation - Going Fishing These guys contributed several songs to the score for Eagle Vs Shark. They make beautiful psychedelic pop with touches of new wave and folk. On this track it brings to mind The Stones Roses and Grandaddy.

4. (mp3) Chris Bathgate - Every Wall You Own This guy makes beautiful emotionally driven country/folk what have you, with vocals that bring to mind the sounds of Jeff Tweedy and Will Oldham. The horns on this track are the perfect compliment to his voice.

3. (mp3) Lavender Diamond - Open Your Heart This L.A. band makes beautiful folk/country with sweet melodies and romantic lyrics. (notice a pattern here yet?) We had never listened to them until checking them out @ Borders this week. Now we too are fans.

2. (mp3) Jesca Hoop -Intelligenticle 101 We saw this girl open up for The Polyphonic Spree last Saturday and if you have the chance to do so we suggest you do the same. KCRW has been all over her for a while now. Looks like we caught this train late but at least we are on abroad.

1. (mp3) Good Life Mike - The No Monitors Summer Mix Our boy Good Life Mike is throwing down tonight @ Hate Jamz tonight @ Touch. Check out this summer mix he made. We've been feelin this for weeks.

Also going on this evening our friends Bears are playing a free show as part of an at Art opening for our friend Kate Pugsley down @ Square records in Akron.

This Is The One

Friday @ The Cedar Lee the new film Eagle vs Shark debuts. Yes I know this film has already come out in other cities but we are finally getting it now here in C-town. The movie features the awesome Jemaine Clement of the band and HBO show of the same name "Flight of The Conchords". While the movie does not feature his sidekick and band mate Bret Mckenize it looks like it is worth seeing. Watch the trailer below if you have not already. Also note the great use of The Stone Roses " This is The One" in the trailer.

Top 5 Songs of The Week ( Extended Weekend Mix)

Today is our second Saturday -- yesterday was our first, being that we were fortunate to have the day off from work. Additionally, it feels so good to have two Saturday's in a row with absolutely beautiful weather. This evening we are going to go see The Polyphonic Spree @ The HOB Cleveland. I have not seen them before but Kelly saw them open for The Flaming Lips and she thoroughly enjoyed them. As it has previously been stated, I only recently have become a fan of this band -- we both have been making love to their new album The Fragile Army, although it is not the kind of album that likes to spoon afterwards.

5. (mp3) Midnight Juggernauts - Road to Recovery This jam is a favorite right now off Justice's Xavier de Rosnay. Speaking of Justice, their song "D.A.N.C.E" recently debuted on TRL, which is very odd if you ask us but at the time we can see the accessibility of the song thru their kick ass video for it.

4. (mp3) Benni Hemm Hemm - Snjór ljós snjór What is it about Iceland that causes all these groups to come out that make beautiful pop music?? Here is yet another one, and they are on their first U.S. tour ever and tomorrow making a stop in C-town @ The Beachland Ballroom in the tavern. Show starts @ 9pm and cost is $7 bucks -- I can't think of better way to spend your Sunday Night.

3. (mp3) Polyphonic Spree - Light to Follow Yet another standout track from The Fragile Army, looking fwd to hearing more from them this evening.

2. (mp3) Fields - If You Fall (Sebastian Remix) This a great remix of one of the best tracks off their album Everything Last Winter that you should listen to now if you have not already done so.

1. (mp3) The Airfields - Nowhere Left To Go We have been waking up to this song and it helps get the day off to a great start with a great combination of Broadcast-esque fuzz meets twee pop.

Top 5 Songs of The Week ( Yep we are slackers)

This week was a busy week. On Monday we had The Black Keys & The Walkmen show and then the rest of the week we had better things to do then sit on the computer and post mp3s :)

Tomorrow marks our 3rd straight Monday going to a show and this one will be the best so far Built To Spill are playing The Grog Shop and it is freaking sold out. Kelly thinks it is a good idea to buy tickets in advance and I usually disagree but I am so glad I bought our tickets for this show close to two months ago.

5. (mp3) Blonde Redhead - Dr. Stranglove they are coming August 4th and the show is the same day as Silversun Pickups what a great dilemma to have.

4. (mp3) Built To Spill - Car I put this great song on a mix for Kelly back in the day. Can't wait to see them tomorrow.

3. (mp3) Bishop Allen - Middle Management this song of their new album brings the rock out in their beautiful pop.

2. (mp3) 120 Days - Justine we didn't like them before but that was before this song

1. (mp3) The Cribs - Men's Needs (CSS Remix) this seems to be the song of the last few days in the blogs. Yes i know we are jumping on the bandwagon but for good reason it is catchy as hell,
