This Thursday make plans for....

The Hourly Radio who are finally making their first ever apperance here in c-town. This great band who hail from Dallas and you should catch them first before they get huge. You may recall last summer when we were excited for their Cleveland debut which was not in the stars due to a double booking @ the venue, But this Thursday all the stars will be aligned once they hit the stage @ The Pirate's Cove @Peabody's Down Under. For more info on the band check out our previous posts on them here. We are both really excited to finally see this great band live and you should be too! Doors open @ 7pm see there.

Check out this accoustic performance of their song " Crime Does Pay"

Tonight @ The Grog Shop @ 9pm check out BEARS last show before and then off right before they go to on tour, they will be opening for Arma Secreta and Panda & Angel. the cost is only $5

Top 5 Songs of The Week (it really needs to stop f*cking snowing!)

Yet another day here in northeast Ohio, with sub freezing temperatures and plenty of snow abound. There are signs at the end of next week that we will actually get over 30 degree weather, so at least it is going to be somewhat warmer soon.

5. [Mp3] Modest Mouse - Dashboard Their new album "We Were Dead Before The Ship Even Sank"
finally leaked this week and their first single continues to get stuck in my skull.

4. [Mp3] Leichtenstein - Stalking Skills This quartet who hail from Göteborg, Sweden make dreamy indie pop you won't soon forget.

3. [Mp3] The Changes - This is it. We were actually talking about Huey Lewis this morning so it is only fitting that we discovered this awesome cover of his song.

2. [Mp3] The Photo Atlas - Handshake Heart Attack Frantic guitars, pent up energy & disonant vocals that bring to the mind of sounds of Les Savy Fav, At The Drive In and Pretty Girls Make Graves.

1. [Mp3] The Kings of Leon - Mcfearless These Tennessee boys have a new long player coming out this spring and as evidence by this song they are sounding more polished than ever and dare I say: beginning to sound like The Pixies?

Bonus: Isn't it great to watch a douchebag on live tv get caught like a deer in headlights? I am not much of a fan of John Mayer's music, but I do think he would be a fun person to hang out with.

Top 5 Songs of The Week!!

On this Sunday afternoon, we felt inspired to post songs that we like that have "Sunday" in the title. This is because upon a previous discusssion, we realized that Saturday gets a lot more love than Sunday [see previous post], so we are just trying to throw some love towards this underappreciated day.

4. [Mp3] Of Montreal - Everyday Feels Like Sunday

3. [Mp3] Acid House Kings - Sunday Morning

Can you spell envy?

Brief update: Down here today in sunny Naples (FL) it was 84 degrees warmer than it was in Cleveland.

Just thought we'd share that with you ;) Also, not to be mean or anything -- we got paid to get some sun today, what did you do?

[Mp3] The Polyphonic Spree - It's the Sun

ps - We told the sun you said "hello". . .she will be coming to visit you in April

pss - If it's any consolation, we did get very burnt to the crisp and pretty much are as red (if not more red than) lobsters

I Don't Like Mondays. . .

So today wasn't really that bad of a day, it was actually kind of alright. Although, it doesn't exactly help to start the week off to a frigid -5 degrees!

Basically, I just don't like Mondays. . .but, I love this song:

[Mp3] Tori Amos - I Don't Like Mondays (cover) (link reknewed)
[Mp3] The Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like Mondays (original) (link reknewed)

Also, be sure to check out the history of this song on wikipedia b/c it's pretty interesting

"If you don't know, now you know"

This week, while doing our typical perusing of what bands are on tour, we saw that Sparrowhouse (aka Jared from voxtrot) is touring and of course isn't coming to c-town. As usual, we were like "what the f*ck, why doesn't anyone want to come to c-town?" (ie - tours that aren't coming here: The Walkmen, Bloc Party, Explosions in the Sky, etc)

Then on Thursday, we saw that voxtrot (you may recall last year when we drove all the way down to Columbus on a week night to see them, check the post) was going on tour, so we were like, we'll humor ourselves and see if they are coming anywhere around Cleveland. . .and low and behold, freaking voxtrot are coming to The Beachland on June 11th with freaking Au revoir Simone opening. This would be the second show this year that shocked the sh*t out of us, the first being of course the fact that Asobi Seksu finally came to Cleveland.

While we are on the topic of shows, we would also like to add that we (especially Jose) is super stoked that The Hourly Radio are finally coming to c-town to play @ Peabody's in March (unfortunately they were unable to play in town last summer b/c the venue was double booked).

There are so many good shows coming up, we are just going to take a moment and highlighting the ones we are looking fwd to:

Young Love - February 26th @ The B-side This up and coming band features Dan Keyes, who is the ex-lead singer of Recover, which have drawn comparisons to labelmates The Killers but they have a lot more pop-electro hits that will get stuck in your skull

TV on the Radio - March 6th @ The Agora Blipsters in the house, 'nuff said!

The Slip - March 17th @ The Grog Shop We were very impressed with their set at The House of Blues opening for My Morning Jacket, we're looking forward to seeing how they are as a headliner in an intimate setting

Amina - March, 25th @ The House of Blues (Cambridge Room) We were blown away by their performance opening for Sigur Ros last year, and no doubt they chose to come back to Cleveland due to their warm reception

Neko Case - April 1st @ The Beachland Ballroom yay!

Bonus:

[Mp3] Voxtrot - Raised By Wolves/You Can Hide Your Love Forever (WOXY.com Lounge Acts)
[Mp3] Au Revoir Simone - Sad Song
[Mp3] The Hourly Radio - Say Something (awesome cover of this James song)
[Mp3] Young Love - Discotech (Ocelot Remix)
[Mp3] TV on the Radio - Wolf Like Me
[Mp3] The Slip - Even Rats
[Mp3] Amina - Hemipode
[Mp3] Neko Case - That Teenage Feeling

Top 5 Songs of The Week!!

This Saturday evening, we find ourselves staying indoors (and not going downtown to see the Luna Negra Ballet, which we had tickets for) from this abrasive and unforgiving weather. Hybernating is fine by us because we are highly entertained by an old favorite of ours: The Rules of Attraction. Speaking of which, does anybody happen to have that Robin Thicke song ("I want to get you alone") used in the naked party scene??

For now, we hope you enjoy your evening and our Top Five Songs of the Week:

5. [Mp3] Lily Allen - Naive There's a rumor that she is coming to C-town! *fingers crossed*

4. [Mp3] Maria Taylor - Replay So excited for her new album to be released this month

3. [Mp3] Emily Haines - Our Hell Heard this great song last night while at B-side

2. [Mp3] Amy Millan - I Will Follow You Into The Dark (Death Cab Cover) Simply beautiful

1. [Mp3] Fiction Like Candy - Mannequin A fabulous band for fans of Nouvelle Vague and Si Se*

Tonight: Girl Talk & The Good Life

This evening we are fortunate enough to be amongst the crowd of people in the area who will be attending the SOLD OUT performance of the one and only Mr. Gregg Gillis aka Girl Talk, throwing it down at The Grog Shop.

Also, don't forget downstairs at B-side on the 1's & 2's, from 10pm-2am our buddy Mike aka The Good Life, will be spinning your favorite hip-hop-funk-indie-electro-whatever. Please stop by and have a drink so he can get paid $$ :)
