Minty Fresh

Tomorrow we are heading to Chi-town, where we will be attending Sunday (and perhaps Saturday) of the Intonation Festival. We are really excited to finally get to see Bloc Party, Annie and others (especially Lupe Fiasaco). While we are on the topic of Chicago, I was looking at the Chicago based record label, Minty Fresh's, website today and I was really impressed while looking over their catalog. This label has always had some really great and diverse bands on it's roster from Husky Rescue to Fugu to The Cardigans to Tahiti 80 to one of their most recent signees: Prototypes

We first learned about this awesome band a few weeks ago from Chris. Then a week later we posted "Je Ne Connais Pais" our our weekly top 5. Now are fortunate enough to have their full length s/t titled debut which came out earlier this month. If you are unfamiliar with the band, they formed back in 2003 in Paris and are comprised of members of the bands BOSCO and Bubble Star. The band earlier this month played their first U.S shows in Boston and New York, and there are more US tour dates to follow. As far as their sound, you can't pigeonhole them although in their album photo they do look like the Yeah Yeah Yeah's. They have a nice blend of punk + folk + synth+ dance w/ in French sound. This record, just like Cansei Der Ser Sexy's, is yet another strong release from a foreign indie + dance + punk band this year. It does not matter that a lot of the songs are in French, this record is really catchy and one of my favorite releases of the year.

So just listen for yourself:

Bonus: Enjoy this video for the Husky Rescue song "Summertime Cowboy" their album Country Falls , their album was one of Kelly's favorite from last year. They will be gracing the stage at this summer's Lollapalooza in Chicago this August.
